Anticorruption Authorities Raid S Romanian Customs Point

Romanian anticorruption prosecutors and police raided Thursday the Ploiesti customs, in southern Romania, checking local import-export firms and customs workers suspected of bribe taking.

Investigators said the operation targets firms that import and export fruit and vegetables and customs workers accused of bribe taking.

Romanian authorities started massive raids this month targeting customs points throughout the country and nearly 200 border police officers and customs workers have been arrested on charges of corruption and smuggling.
