A ten-trip card will cost RON10 and an unlimited-trip daily pass will cost RON6.
The prices of unlimited-trip weekly and monthly passes will remain unchanged, at RON15 and RON50, respectively, according to a press release.
Metrorex says that, this year, the ratio of the subsidy necessary for maintenance and repairs to the allotted subsidy is over 126%, meaning a financing deficit of RON90 million (EUR21.21 million), and that consumer prices have increased by more than 5% since the last fare hike, in September 2010.
The company adds that costs with fuel, water, heating and electricity are also higher. The cost of electricity rose from RON274/MWh last year to RON315/MWh at the moment.
Metrorex compares the price of one subway trip in Bucharest, which is around 30 eurocents, to that of other European cities, like Budapest (EUR1), Barcelona (EUR1.35), Madrid (EUR2), Berlin (EUR2.1) or London (EUR4.7).
