Renault has said it hopes to limit production losses due to the shortage to 100,000 vehicles this year.
The worldwide shortage of semiconductors hat has affected the global automotive industry is expected to peak in the second quarter, but chip supplies are expected to be restored in the second half of the year. The shortage has been linked to increased demand for consumer electronics, particularly due to coronavirus lockdowns.
Both Dacia and Ford, Romania's two carmakers, have had to halt production for a few days in the past three months.
Car production in Romania was 15.3% lower in January and February compared with the same period in 2020.
