The best paid employees in the banking sector in the Central and Eastern Europe region are those in the Czech Republic, where the average monthly salary reaches EUR931, closely followed by Lithuania with EUR930.
Banking employees in Latvia and Hungary earn an average EUR850, while employees in Croatia make an average of EUR830.
Bank wages in Serbia are close to those in Romania, with approximately EUR750 a month.
“The average salary in the banking industry is not necessarily low, especially when compared to the average net wage in the country, but compared with other countries in the region, employees outside Romania pay more. Of course, cost of living in each country is important to consider when comparing salaries. If we step outside of CEE, we will find double or triple salaries, but the cost of living is also much higher,” said Bogdan Badea, CEO of online job portal eJobs Romania.
The Romanian banking sector has been through considerable restructuring in recent years and the industry currently employs around 53,000 people.
