Employees of Ford's car assembly plant in Craiova, southern Romania, will be forced to go on furlough between March 19 and April 5 due to the coronavirus epidemic, union representatives said Tuesday.

Ford Romania Employees Go on Furlough Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

During furlough, employees will be paid 78% of their regular salary. Ford has over 6,000 employees in its Craiova plant.

Ford has not yet commented officially on its plans to suspend or restrict activity.

Romania is under state of emergency for a 30-day period starting March 16 and people are urged to self-isolate if possible and practice social distancing in a bid to slow down the spread of the virus.
