Romania's Parliament on Tuesday elected Gheorghe Iancu to the position of Ombudsman, with 216 votes for and 18 against.

Gheorghe Iancu Elected Romanian Ombudsman By Parliament

Iancu's competitor, Valer Dorneanu, received 13 votes for and 221 votes against.

Iancu will serve a five year term. He was the deputy to the previous Ombudsman, Ioan Muraru, whose term ended on May 10.

Gheorghe Iancu was proposed by the Democratic Liberal Party, while Valer Dorneanu was endorsed by the Social-Liberal Union.
