"We are experiencing a difficult period that will mark not only Romania, but also the other states, on a historical scale. This critical stage put us in front of the mirror decades of ruling in Romania. Today we see clearly the disastrous effects of the toxic way of thinking that has held us in place for decades. The change will be impossible for those politicians who only think about their electoral benefits. They make the wrong proposals and they burden a country. We cannot jeopardize the future of Romania just because a majority without any legitimacy votes populist measures that have no support", Klaus Iohannis has said on Thursday in a press statement.
The head of state added, that since the beginning of the crisis, all politicians have called for abandoning demagogic discourse.
"It is unacceptable and revolting to see today giving lessons those who left hospitals without resources. A political leader cannot be characterized as questioning the necessity of the state of emergency. (...) Any gesture and attitude contrary to the recommendation of the specialists is an unconsciousness that can have tragic repercussions. The current crisis is managed by specialists who respect the measures", said Iohannis.
In his speech, the president criticized PSD, UDMR, ALDE and Pro Romania, after the parliamentarians on Thursday, in an online meeting, with a majority of votes, approved Klaus Iohannis' request to extend the state of emergency on Romania's territory by another 30 days, but a number of conditions were imposed on the Government.
Your rights and freedoms will be restricted for another 30 days. The parliamentarians approved the decree regarding the extension of the state of emergency, but they did not renounce the conditions imposed by the PSD. Thus, the Government will have to submit a weekly report on the activities taken to combat the coronavirus pandemic, and 60 days after the cessation of the state of emergency the Court of Accounts will verify how the public procurements were done.
Of the 439 parliamentarians who voted, 404 for the decree, while 29 voted against, and five abstained. ALDE and Pro Romania were the only parties that did not support the approval of the extension of the emergency state.
