Iohannis: Schools, kindergartens and universities will not reopen soon

After a meeting with prime minister Ludovic Orban and several ministers, Klaus Iohannis announces that the schools will not open this year.

"We must be aware that the epidemic is not over. I hear from many that we need to relax, that the weather is beautiful. It's not like that. Yesterday we had over 400 new cases of infected people, today we have over 300. We cannot talk about a relaxation or a slowdown", says the president.

According to him, the authorities have to take into account a few simple things, namely that if students went to school, there would be two major risks: to take the disease to school and to take the disease from school to home.

"We also wanted to know what other countries are doing. We found that there are a number of countries that no longer want to reopen schools, other countries where the situation is under evaluation. We looked at the example in France, where a school was experimentally opened in a province. It did not go very well: after a few days, dozens of students were tested positive, several teachers came to intensive care. Things are not simple at all", added Iohannis.

Thus, it was decided that for most students, during this school year, kindergartens, schools and universities will not reopen.

The school year will end on June 12, and until then the forms of distance education will continue, and the evaluations will be done.
