Kaufland Romania Announces Language Courses In Aftermath Of Controversial Incident
Kaufland Romania announced on Friday that the company has begun an investigation and that it will introduce Romanian courses, among other measures, in the aftermath of an incident in which a man was refused by a shop assistant from a mostly Hungarian-speaking part of Romania.

The company expressed apologies on the situation and said that it contradicts its principles regarding customers. The company also triggerred an investigation and announced Romanian courses for its employees.
Kaufland Romania said that, according to the first pieces of information that the investigation revealed, the man came to the store three times between 9:31 – 9:47, although he had been informed the store opened at 10.
The store also received a RON10,000 fine after refusing to collaborate with inspectors from the local Office for Consumer Protection.
Kaufland Romania issued these statements following an incident that happened on Thursday in Odorheiu Secuiesc, a city located in Szeklerland, which is a region of Romania where Hungarians make up more than 60% of the population. A man went to a Kaufland store where a shop assistant allegedly refused to help him because he was speaking only Romanian.
