According to a Nokia Romania press release, the agreement between the management and the plant's labor unions has been conceived to answer local needs.

The value of the severance package is higher than stipulated in the collective work contract: three base salaries for each employee, plus a monthly wage for each year spent in the company. The employees will be laid off in January 2012, but will continue to be paid until the end of March 2012, in order to adapt and focus on finding new work, says the press release.

Nokia announced recently it would shut down its Romanian production facility by the end of the year and move operations to Asia. The move will leave 2,200 people jobless.
