New Austerity Measures in 2011 Means This Year’s Decisions Weren’t Right – Romania’s Deputy PM
Romania’s deputy Prime Minister and Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (URMR) leader Marko Bela said Thursday on RFI Romania that, if new austerity measures are required in 2011, it means all efforts made in 2010 “came to nothing”.

"The measures taken in 2010 were broadly right. Of course, our discussions always focused on social protection," said Marko Bela.
He added politicians sometimes hesitated when it came to taking urgent measures and were not always "operative".
"There are situations when measures must be taken as soon as possible if you are convinced they are essential (…) On the other hand, this year we have not been sufficiently concerned with investments and measures to stimulate economy," said the deputy prime minister.
He went on saying that, if the decisions taken in 2010 were right, no extra austerity measures will be needed in 2011.
"I am convinced we won't need new measures targeting revenues, wages and pensions next year," said Marko.
Referring to discussions concerning a future government coalition made up of liberals, social democrats and UDMR, Marko said that, so far, nobody has convinced him that in such a government coalition he would act differently than in the current coalition with democrat liberals.
