New Mandatory Car Insurance Norms To Intensify Competition Btw Repair Shops – Romania’s Insurers

Insurers said the amendments brought by CSA to the RCA norms will also intensify competition between car repair shops.

The insurance regulator said Monday it amended the norms regulating the mandatory civil liability car insurance sector.

According to CSA, insurers will pay RCA damage claims before cars are repaired and not after they are taken out of repair shops, and the value of the claim will be set by insurers according to the prices charged by car repair shops and not based on their own damage assessments.

RCA insurers will have to set damage claims taking into account the prices charged by car repair shops or those listed in catalogues, said CSA, adding that, until now, repair costs were decided following damage assessments carried out by insurers.

Moreover, an amendment to the RCA norms stipulates insurers must inform people involved in car accidents which raise suspicions regarding the context in which they occurred about its intention to run further investigations.

CSA reduced to 10 days from 15 days the interval in which RCA insurers can pay damage claims, after all the required documents are submitted with the insurer.

CSA said car owners can mend their vehicles in any repair shops they choose, even if they are not among the repair shops with which the insurer signed collaboration conventions.

The amendments brought by CSA to the law regulating the mandatory civil liability car insurance sector will be enforced after they are published in the Official Journal.
