President: Romania Paid Harsh Price For Politicians’ Inconsistency
Romania has paid a harsh price during its five years of EU membership for the inconsistency of its politicians, who discredited the country’s image in the European Union through some of their decisions, President Traian Basescu said Thursday.

Inconsistent decisions, such as those regarding the National Integrity Agency and the National Anticorruption Department, are responsible for EU's decision not to lift the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification (CVM) in the Romanian justice sector, Basescu said.
"If Romania had not hesitated twice, the mechanism might have been lifted this summer," said Basescu.
