Romania 2Q Net Investment Down 9.8% On Year To RON13B
Romanian net investments fell 9.8% to 12.96 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.2636) in the second quarter compared with the year-earlier period, due to slow activity in all sectors, the country’s statistics institute INS said Thursday.

New construction works dropped 17.5% on the year to RON7.2 billion in the second quarter, while investments in machinery and equipment, including transport vehicles, were down 1.6% to RON4.5 billion.
Other investments nudged down 0.1% on the year to RON1.2 billion, INS data showed.
In the first half of 2010, Romanian net investments fell 18.7% on the year to RON22.5 billion, due to decreases in all sectors.
New constructions were down 22.5% on the year to RON11.5 billion in the January-June period, while investments in machinery and equipment fell 18.2% to RON8.9 billion. Other investments decreased by 8.4% to RON2.07 billion.
By sector, net investments in industry amounted to 38.2% of total investment in the first half of 2010, followed by investments in commerce and services (36.6%), constructions (17.9%) and agriculture (5.5%).
Net investments in other sectors of the Romanian economy stood at 1.8% of the overall investments in January to June.
The INS data include financial results from around 21,000 economic and social operators with 50 or more staff. The maximum admitted margin of error is plus/minus 3%.
