Romania Abandons Opposition Against Serbian EU Candidacy

Romanian President Traian Basescu said Thursday in Brussels that Romania will withdraw its veto against giving Serbia official EU candidate status, sources cited by AFP said.

In a Tuesday meeting of EU ministers, Romania blocked a decision to give Serbia official candidate status, over disputes with the neighboring country regarding its Romanian minority.

However, on Thursday, the two states signed a protocol on the rights of national minorities.
