Romania celebrates its National Day today, marking the 93rd anniversary of the Great Union of Transylvania with the rest of Romanian provinces, which was proclaimed on December 1, 1918 in the central city of Alba Iulia.

Romania Celebrates National Day

Military parades and wreath laying ceremonies are being held in both Alba Iulia and capital Bucharest.

President Traian Basescu addressed a message to the nation Wednesday evening urging Romanians everywhere to display the national flag, be proud of their heritage and wishing them a happy national day.
