European Council President Herman Van Rompuy on Thursday welcomed the way Romania implemented the assistance program agreed with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.

Van Rompuy said Romania consolidated its economy, public finances, macroeconomic policies, as well as the fiscal responsibility and unitary wage legislation.

He added the country ensured the stability of its financial system amid a world economic crisis.

Van Rompuy stressed Roma minorities must be integrated by offering them jobs, as well as access to education and medical assistance.
