Romania PM Says RON1.9B e-Romania Strategy Just A Project, No Funds Allotted So Far

Boc underscored it all goes down to the intention of the government and the ministry to implement the e-Romania national strategy in the upcoming years, which will work like a network bridge between all structures of the local and central administration and taxpayers.

Boc stressed the government has only approved a memorandum for its implementation, but has assigned no funds whatsoever to this end so far, adding it is only a project that will materialize when there is money to carry it through.

The country's Communications Ministry has recently said that state budget funds and commitment appropriations will account for at least 60% of total funds needed to implement the e-Romania national strategy.

"According to estimations, commitment appropriations will account for 40% - 60%, while state budget funds will account for 20%. However, the purpose is to lower the weight of state budget funds in financing this strategy. European Union funds will account for 20-50% and the rest of nearly 20% is to be covered by public-private partnerships," the ministry also said, adding these percentages are estimative and likely to change on the process.

Early this week, the ministry said the government will allot RON1.9 billion in the 2010 and 2013 interval to implement the e-Romania national strategy aimed to ease online communication between public administration and taxpayers.

The ministry also said the e-Romania strategy aims to modernize the state by facilitating online communication between public administration bodies and taxpayers, adding RON245.1 million will be allotted in 2010, RON714.5 million in 2011, 575.8 million in 2012 and RON364.8 million in 2013.

According to the ministry, e-Romania will ease taxpayers' access to information and will help them pay taxes rapidly, as the tax collecting system will simplify and further contribute to reducing tax evasion.
