Romania Ranked 69th In Transparency International 2010 Corruption Perceptions Index

The index shows Romania has a higher public sector corruption level than in 2009, when it scored 3.8 points.

The research gives ten points to states that are not affected by corruption and zero points to states where corruption is endemic.

At a European Union level, the East European country comes into 25th position regarding the corruption level and is closely followed by Bulgaria (3.6 points) and Greece (3.5 points).

According to the index, Romania got the same score as Montenegro, Cuba and Brazil, and is outranked by Georgia (68), Rwanda (66), Ghana (62), Macedonia (62), Croatia (62), Turkey (56), South Africa (54), Saudi Arabia (50) and Israel (30).

According to Transparency International annual report, about three fourths of the 178 states included in the index are affected by corruption.

The index reveals that Afghanistan and Myanmar are among the most corrupted states (1.4 points) and Somalia got the lowest score (1.1). Denmark, New Zealand and Singapore are the less corrupted states (9.3 points).
