Romania's Annual Inflation Rate Slows to 3.6% in January

Romania's annual inflation rate dropped to 3.6% in January from 4% in December 2019, data from the country's statistics board showed Thursday.

Food prices grew 4.75% in January compared with January 2019, prices of non-food items were 2.68% higher, and service prices grew 4%.

Compared with December 2019, consumer prices grew 0.4% in January.

Romania's central bank expects inflation to decline significantly in the early months of 2020 and projects it at 2.8% at the end of the first quarter. It sees year-end inflation at 3% in 2020.
