"The 4.7% increase is an estimate based on Transelectrica's data, and not the power producers' figures," the electricity transporter's deputy general manager Octavian Lohan told MEDIAFAX on Monday.
After receiving the exact data from energy producers, the increase might be different compared with Transelectrica's estimates, but not radically changed, he added.
In 2009, Romania's electricity consumption dropped 8.2% on the year, at 48.672 billion KWh, as the economic crisis forced several large industrial consumers to shut down or reduce their activity.
For 2011 and 2012, Transelectrica estimates electricity consumption will rise by 1% and 2%, respectively.
Transelectrica is majority owned by the Economy Ministry. On the Bucharest Stock Exchange Monday, Transelectrica shares were up 4.4% at RON20.2, outperforming the bourse's main index BET, which was up 1.2%.
