Romania’s PM-Designate To Seek Parliament Confidence Vote For New Cabinet

Croitoru on Friday presented the structure of his government, which will have 14 ministries headed by experts and democrat liberal politicians, as politicians of all other parties have declined positions in this government.

Croitoru's Cabinet keeps Finance Minister Gheorghe Pogea, Transport Minister Radu Berceanu, Economy Minister Adriean Videanu, Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu, Culture Minister Theodor Paleologu, Defense Minister Mihai Stanisoara and Development Minister Vasile Blaga, part of the Cabinet that lost a confidence vote in Parliament last week.

The rest of the ministries will be headed by experts: Emeric Saghi - Interior Ministry, Bogdan Aurescu - Foreign Ministry, Daniel Funeriu - Education, Youth and Sports Ministry, Mihai Seitan - Labor Ministry, Adrian Radulescu - Agriculture Ministry, Cristian Vladescu - Health Ministry and Sulfina Barbu - Environment Ministry.

"I am not a politician, I look at things from an economic and financial perspective," Croitoru said, adding he is confident the Parliament will endorse his Cabinet.

After the prime minister-designate requires a confidence vote for the new Cabinet and governing program, the Parliament must hold the vote in 15 days at the latest, according to the regulations of plenary meetings.

Romania's Social Democratic Party, Liberal Party, Conservative Party, the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania and the group representing national minorities, which have a majority of more than 65% in Parliament, have said repeatedly they will not give Croitoru's government a confidence vote and have often reaffirmed they endorse Sibiu city mayor Klaus Johannis for prime minister.
