"This data is included in the draft revision of the energy strategy for 2007-2020, which is now discussed by the European Commission," Sandulescu told an energy conference.
Available output cumulated 16,445 MW, out of the total installed capacity, according to the new document, which includes measures and forecasts until 2035.
Under the revised strategy, Romania should replace units with an overall output of 5,544 MW by 2020, namely 28% of the total. Units cumulating some 55% of the total, or 11,066 MW, will be disbanded until 2035.
In 2035, Romania will need an available output of more than 20,000 MW. Furthermore, some 42.3% of Romania's energy production will be covered by nuclear power plants, while hydropower plants should cover 24.3% (currently at 29%) and fossil fuel units 16.5% (currently at 50.05%).
Renewable energy units will cover 16.8% of production by 2035.
