Thus, last year Romania obtained an average output of 3,471 kg per hectare, which is below the Bulgarian output, 4,190 kg/ha, and about half of the European Union average output on the segment.
According to INS president Vergil Voineagu, Romania has the widest surface of corn crops in the EU (27.4% of the total), but ranks second in overall output (with 13.8%), outranked by France, which has an almost triple output, 9,100 kg/ha, while using a surface only half of that used in Romania for corn crops.
Excluding Cyprus and Portugal, countries with a less adequate climate and soil, Romania is ranked last in the EU with respect for wheat output calculated on hectare, with an average output of 2,341 kg registered last year. Bulgaria has an average output of 3,200 kg/ha, while states such as Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia see outputs doubled compared to Romania.
The highest outputs on hectare are seen in the Netherlands - 9,620 kg, Belgium - 9,160 kg, Great Britain - 8,280 kg, Denmark - 8,120 kg, Germany - 7,800 kg, and France - 7,400 kg.
Most Mediterranean countries have outputs below the EU average but higher than the one obtained by Romania.
Calculating on the overall surface of wheat crops, Romania ranks fourth with 8.5% of the total, but achieves only 3.7% of the European output, which places Romania seventh.
The situation is similar with respect for potato crops, where Romania is the third country in the EU with respect for crops surface (12.2%), but sixth with respect for output within the Community (6.7%). With an output of 15,933 kg/ha, Romania is overtaken by Bulgaria - 16.270 kg/ha, Poland - 19,760 kg/ha, Hungary - 25,320 kg/ha and the Czech Republic - 26,739 kg/ha. Romania obtains almost one third of Germany's output - 44,056 kg/ha, France's - 43,460 kg/ha or the UK's - 42,792 kg/ha.
When it comes to sunflower, Romania's crops span over the second widest surface in the EU, covering one fifth of overall sunflower crops, but when it comes to output, Romania tanks fourth, with a share of 16.1%. Romania has an average sunflower output of 1,388 kg/ha, which places it ahead of Spain - 1,029 kg/ha, but below Bulgaria - 1,800 kg/ha, Poland - 1,780 kg/ha, the Czech Republic - 2,250 kg/ha and Hungary - 2,248 kg/ha. France, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Spain cover 91.0% of the European output.
Ranking seventh in the EU with respect for rapeseed output, and holding a market share of 2.8%, Romanian crops hold a 6.8% share in the overall EU rape crop surface, the fifth in size. Output on hectare is one of the lowest, with an average 1,342 kg. Germany achieves an average output of 4,287 kg/ha, the UK - 3,299 kg/ha, the Czech Republic - 3,180 kg/ha, Poland - 2,730 kg/ha and Bulgaria 2,640 kg/ha.
Romania, Germany, France, Poland, the UK, the Czech Republic and Denmark cover 90% of the EU's rapeseed output.
