„The new collective work contract stipulates wage raises in two tranches. As of January, employees will get a wage raise of RON200, to be applied retroactively, and they will get an extra RON60 as of May. This is an average raise of 13%,” said Iordache.
The carmaker’s management and union have been negotiating the new collective work contract for the past month.
Iordache also denied rumors of a hire freeze and potential layoffs as Dacia owner Renault starts producing cars in Morocco.
„It’s true that some Dacia models will be made in Morocco, but that doesn’t mean the output will be lowered in Romania,” he said, adding the Romanian plant will focus on the Duster model.
Renault’s plant in Tanger, Morocco, starts producing two new Dacia models, a minivan and a utility vehicle, in the first months of next year.
Dacia employees’ got their most recent wage hike, of RON300, in February last year. Automobile Dacia currently employs about 15,000 people.
The Romanian carmaker’s sales increased 12% last year, to 348,723 cars and its market share in Europe climbed to 1.6%. In Romania, Dacia sold 36,730 cars last year, 20% less than in 2009.
