Liberals notified the Constitutional Court on the Government's confidence-vote procedures to push the wage bills through parliament. The opposition's no-confidence motion over the bill was rejected in Parliament last week.
The Court will also rule on challenges brought to the recently adopted education law for which the Government sought lawmakers' confidence vote in October.
Chamber Speaker Roberta Anastase on December 14 announced in Parliament the education law is considered adopted as opposition liberal lawmakers pulled their signatures from the motion of no-confidence submitted over the bill. The Court was notified by opposition lawmakers and Senate Chairman Mircea Geoana.
The request submitted by opposition lawmakers states the Government's decision to adopt the education bill by seeking a vote of confidence has breached the fundamental provisions on the separation of powers in the state, the Parliament's role as single legislative body and the confidence vote procedure itself.
They also said that a similar bill is currently being debated by the Senate and argue that, since the education law will only enter effect starting with the next school year and there is no evidence of blockage in the legislature's activity, the Government's move to expedite the adoption process is unconstitutional.
