Romanian Environment Min: EU To Introduce Tax On Apartment Heating Systems In 2013 Or 2015

The European Union will introduce a pollution tax on apartment heating systems "in 2013 or 2015," said Romanian Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely.

Speaking in a debate hosted by the Institute for Public Policy (IPP), the minister warned that individual apartment heating units would no longer be as attractive, because of an upcoming EU tax on these devices.

When asked what will happen in areas where the majority of the public has left the centralized heating system, Borbely replied that one solution would be building heating units, using traditional fuels or renewable energy.
