Romania’s Government decided Wednesday to unfreeze hiring in local public institutions that face major staff shortages, Government spokeswoman Ioana Muntean said after the Cabinet meeting.

The Government decided two years ago to freeze hiring in the public sector and allow local authorities to fill only one in seven vacant positions.
Muntean said the one hire per seven vacant position rule will continue to apply on a national level but the Government will allow local authorities to unfreeze hiring where staff shortages impede institutions from carrying out their activities.
