Tabara said the future normative act does not oblige landowners to till their land, but remove undesirable plants. He added weeds represent a dangerous source of plant diseases and pest.
The minister said the regulations do not target only private land, but also land belonging to the public domain.
Official data show Romania has about three million hectares of untilled farmland.
