Without an active employment policy Romanian sees no short-run economic development, said Paul Vass at a conference presenting the governmental Strategy for the development of the SME sector in 2009-2013.
She went on saying the Government has three objectives: creating a more flexible Labor Code, reforming the education system to focus on developing skills, increasing SMEs competitiveness and their capacity to create new jobs.
People close to the matter told MEDIAFAX the Government held a first round of debates on the draft Labor Code Wednesday and plans to convene in a special meeting to approve the document. The Government will seek a confidence vote in Parliament to pass the new Labor Code into legislation.
The Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business Environment on Thursday launched a SMEs development strategy for 2009-2013, drawn up by business consulting companies KPMG and Finas Consulting. The ministry rethought the strategy, as the document presented last year was contested by business environment representatives.
The new strategy includes five main objectives: easing the access to finance, encouraging entrepreneurship and increasing competitiveness, enhancing SMEs legislation, developing entrepreneurial education, encouraging SMEs' presence on the local market and on third markets.
The strategy also aims to increase by 10% the number of SMEs and employees in the sector, as well as exports. Productivity is expected to increase by 5% and investments by 15%.
The 3.48 million lei (EUR =RON4.2331) strategy is financed by the European Union (85%) and the state budget (15%).
