Romanian Govt Will Not "Force Layoffs" In 2011 – IMF Official
Romania's public sector was reduced by almost 90,000 employees by November 2010 and the Government does not plan to "force layoffs" this year, aiming to lower personnel expenses via voluntary resignation or retirement, said Jeffrey Franks, head of the IMF delegation to Romania.

Franks said there are no layoffs planned for 2011 and vacant positions will be filled at the same rate.
Romanian President Traian Basescu said in early January he still considers that the number of state employees should be gradually reduced to 900,000 and stressed that the reduction might also be achieved through layoffs.
