Boc argued that Romania cannot afford any excess or deviation from its tight budget spending policy.

The committee for labor matters in the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday voted down a Government emergency ordinance that introduced a 5.5% health insurance contribution for pensioners earning RON740 - 1,000 per month. The ordinance took effect on January 1, 2011.

The Chamber of Deputies in plenary will have the final say on the bill.
