A boost in the Romanian minimum wage from the current 600 lei (EUR1=RON4.2940) could discourage employment, thus authorities should be cautious when making such a decision, said Wednesday Jeffrey Franks, head of the IMF mission to Romania.

Regarding the IMF projections on the local economy, Franks said they will be analyzed during the visit to Bucharest, but there will not be any substantial changes.

An IMF mission arrived Wednesday to Bucharest to review the unfolding EUR13 billion stand-by loan and start preliminary talks with local authorities on a new agreement.
