Romania's outgoing Cabinet wants to allot more than 33.6 million lei (EUR7.6 million) from the budget reserve fund to build and repair churches, arguing that they were damaged by last winter's snowfall.

According to information obtained by MEDIAFAX, the Government says there have been numerous requests from the religious cults in the country for financial support, urgently needed to prevent "damage to what has been built so far."
People close to the matter told MEDIAFAX earlier that the agenda for the Government's Wednesday meeting includes a draft decision providing local authorities with money from VAT transfers to finance the infrastructure development program and the construction of sporting grounds in rural areas, as well as budget increases for the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture and State Secretariat for Cults.
