Romanian Parl Committee Rejects Health Insurance Contributions For Pensioners Getting RON740-1,000

The committee for labor matters in Romania’s Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday voted down a Government ordinance that introduced a 5.5% health insurance contribution for pensioners with 740 – 1,000 lei per month.

Committee members voted nine to eight to reject the introduction of the health insurance contribution for that category of pensioners.

The Chamber of Deputies in plenary will have the final say on the bill.

Liberal MP Ludovic Orban said the measure affects about 39% of Romanian pensioners, or roughly two million people.

The ordinance took effect on January 1, 2011.
