Boc asked the tax administrator ANAF to initiate a general fiscal inspection of local oil companies, while the Competition Council was asked to check for potential cases of monopoly.
In his turn, Competition Council president Bogdan Chiritoiu said competition inspectors will work with fiscal agents for data comparison.
Recent unannounced fiscal inspections at gasoline makers and distributors yielded a government report according to which pump prices were groundlessly raised throughout 2010, while almost all oil companies reported losses.
Romania's main fuel distributors are OMV Petrom (SNP.RO), Rompetrol, Lukoil, MOL and OMV.
