Romania’s Prime Minister Emil Boc on Wednesday said he expects the decisions the European Union will take in September will ensure the country’s “full accession” to the Schengen Area in 2012.

"Romania has met the technical requirements to join Schengen. We must also be sufficiently persuasive to counterbalance the subjective or political reserves still shown by some of our European partners," Boc said during a meeting with Romanian diplomats.
The prime minister highlighted that Romania's foreign affairs priorities in 2011 and 2012 are, alongside the Schengen accession, the Mechanism of Cooperation and Verification (CVM) in the justice sector, the negotiations regarding the EU financial perspective in 2014-2020, the implementation of the Danube Strategy and keeping the EU's interest in Eastern Europe awake.
Boc said the first half of 2012 will be decisive for the country, as the CVM will assess the progress made by Romania five years after the implementation of the mechanism.
