"Today brings confirmation of what I had suspected. The opposition's goal is to get Romania off track," said Traian Basescu.
The head of state spoke about the opposition's intention to submit two no-confidence motions over public sector wages, which he deemed "a perfectly democratic action", but said debate calendars for these motions would push back reforms and the adoption of next year's state budget.
Basecu said businessmen like media owners Dan Voiculescu and Sorin Ovidiu Vintu are behind opposition leaders and are hoping to rebuild their fortunes that have been chipped by the crisis.
"It's a deaf battle to push Romania off track," said Basescu.
The Romanian opposition Liberal Party and Social Democratic Party submitted a no-confidence motion in Parliament over the wage law for 2011, for which the Government sought MPs confidence vote Tuesday, liberal deputy Eugen Nicolaescu told a news conference Wednesday.
Social Democratic Party leader Victor Ponta said earlier Wednesday the opposition will submit two motions of no-confidence in Parliament over the wage law for 2011 and the unitary wage law. The second motion is to be submitted Thursday.
Democrat liberal deputy Ioan Oltean said Wednesday that, if the two no-confidence motions are submitted on two different days, they will be debated in Parliament on Monday so that debates on the draft state budget for 2011 will not be affected.
