Basescu said the Government and the Parliament must take measures consistent with the national interest.
The head of state highlighted that the country's IMF-required unitary wage law, pension law and the 2011 state budget law must be adopted within 45 days and called for a short-term "moratorium" on political battle.
The president told lawmakers that the country's political environment "has deteriorated" over the past months, adding this might lead to not being able to meet the conditions included in the agreements with the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and the World Bank.
"The decision lies in your hands," the president told lawmakers and added any delays in taking a decision regarding the political battle freeze will be detrimental to Romania.
Basescu Monday sent a letter to the leaders of the two chambers of Parliament saying he wishes to address the legislature as soon as possible, even as soon as Tuesday, on matters of internal politics.
