Romanian President: Europe Must Cede Sovereignty To Preserve Power

Romania’s President Traian Basescu on Thursday said he is in favor of creating the United States of Europe and pointed out that Europe will be able to remain an economic and military power only by ceding sovereignty.

"Only by ceding sovereignty will Europe be able to remain an economic and military power. Otherwise, it will become a history book about the most sophisticated cultures," said Basescu.

The Romanian head of state highlighted that the European Union's future as a political structure is uncertain unless proper decisions regarding its functioning are taken.
