Romanian President Says No Further Bank Taxes In Sight

Romanian President Traian Basescu Thursday said the government doesn’t plan to increase banking taxes.

"If the government were to consider banking taxes, it would have implemented them when the situation was really tough (…). I've talked to the prime minister, the finance minister and they've never looked into additional banking taxes as a means to increase revenues," Basescu told a seminar organized by Ziarul Financiar.

He added that no such measure will be taken as long as the banks make an effort to reduce loan costs.
