Romanian unionists and employers on Friday signed the national collective work Contract which sets the minimum wage in the private sector at 700 lei (EUR1=RON4.2953) and increases wages of qualified workers and foremen.

According to the collective work contract, salaries of employees with university degrees will remain at a level of RON1,200.

Employer confederation UGIR 1903 president Cezar Corici told a news conference Friday the minimum wage in the private sector has not been increased over the past two years.

The wage quotient for qualified workers will be of 1.1, which will increase their salaries to RON770 from RON720. The quotient for foremen was set at 1.3, and their salaries will thus rise to RON910 from RON780.

The collective contract introduces a minimum salary per hour, whose value was set at RON4.118.

The new collective work contract is valid between 2011 and 2014, but unionists and employers will negotiate it yearly.
