Romanian National Authority for Property Restitution (ANPR) vice-president Remus Virgil Baciu has been placed under arrest for 29 days on charges of influence peddling and taking bribes.

Romanian Property Restitution Authority Vice-President Detained For Corruption

According to anticorruption prosecutors, Baciu demanded and received money to speed up compensation granting procedures in several cases regarding property nationalized during the communist regime.

Prosecutors are also investigating the four people who offered bribes.

In October 2007, Baciu was indicted on similar charges.

Prime Minister Emil Boc on Monday dismissed Baciu from the position of ANRP vice-president.
