Romania's Senate on Tuesday approved two letters of intent from the Government to the International Monetary Fund, signed on December 22, 2010 and March 1, 2011, respectively.

The two letters concern freezing pensions and public sector salaries, continuing layoffs in the public sector, reforming the healthcare system by reducing the number of hospitals and beginning preliminary procedures to privatize certain state-owned companies, including airline Tarom.
The Senate was the deciding house for the letters.
