Romanian Unionists Threaten Full-Blown Strike To Topple Govt

Union leader Bogdan Hossu called on unionists to cease work every Monday until procedures for a full-blown strike are ready.

Thousands of people gathered outside the Parliament building Wednesday to demonstrate against the Executive's austerity measures, while the Cabinet run by democrat liberal Prime Minister Emil Boc was facing a confidence vote in Parliament.

Romania has implemented harsh cost-cutting measures this summer to meet the demands of a EUR20 billion IMF-led international loan agreed last year.
