Clamparu was caught Wednesday and is presently detained by Madrid authorities, pending a court hearing to implement the European arrest warrant.
The group led by Clamparu made millions of dollars from criminal activities, money used to hinder the vast investigation into his criminal network, says the indictment prepared by the Department for the Investigation of Organized Crime (DIICOT) within the General Prosecutor's Office.
In early June 2011, more than one hundred people were arrested through a global Interpol operation targeting some of the world's most dangerous wanted criminals, including Ioan Clamparu, suspected of human trafficking. The operation was carried out in 29 states and sought 450 people suspected of crimes such as murder, pedophilia or drug trafficking.
According to the Interpol notice, Clamparu is sought by Romanian authorities for creating a human trafficking network, which forced more than one hundred women into prostitution in Spain. Police believe he is connected to night clubs and hotels in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
