Romanian novelist and playwright Fanus Neagu died Tuesday morning in a hospital in capital Bucharest. He was 79.

Romanian Writer Fanus Neagu Dies At 79

Neagu, born April 5, 1932, was suffering from prostate cancer and was in a coma for several days.

He was also editor at culture magazines Luceafarul and Amfiteatru and sports columnist at Romania Literara.

Between 1993 and 1996 he held the position of National Theatre Bucharest director. Neagu was also a member of the Romanian Academy.
