Romanians Behind On Pension Contributions Risk Penalties

Romanians who fail to pay their pension contributions for three consecutive months may risk contract termination under a draft decision the Labor Ministry has submitted for public debate.

The draft act on the application norms of the unitary public pension law reads that the income stated in the social security contract, for which social security contributions must be paid, can be altered, at the contributor's request, through an additional act.

Contributors who fall behind on their payments risk incurring penalties. Failure to pay for three consecutive months may result in contracts' cancellation.

The contract may also be cancelled at the contributor's written request, according to the draft act.

People who have been living in areas affected by permanent pollution for at least 30 years may have retirement age reduced by two years.
