"I have decided to retire from the position of Senate chairman, although the CCR decision has not been published", Meleşcanu announced in the Senate plenary sitting.

The Constitutional Court (CCR) has admitted the allegation of unconstitutionality of the election of Teodor Meleşcanu as chairman of the Senate.

Teodor Meleşcanu was elected on 10 September 2019, on the proposal of the PSD, as chairman of the Senate. Following the election of Teodor Melescanu to the head of the Senate, with the support of the PSD, the former Foreign Minister was expelled from ALDE.
