Thousands Protest In Romania Against Political Class For Ninth Straight Day

Disgruntled not only with the government's harsh anti-crisis measures, demonstrators protest against the entire political class, calling for early elections.

Interior Ministry spokesman Marius Militaru told MEDIAFAX Saturday evening about 3,000 people demonstrate countrywide.

Prime Minister Emil Boc said earlier Saturday he understands people's dissatisfaction, adding that, on the other hand, he is confident the Government took the right decisions to prevent the economy from collapsing.

Asked whether he will resign, Boc said the Government's future will be decided in Parliament. The prime minister highlighted that he has supported the organization of an extraordinary Parliament session and any form of institutional dialog.

The Parliament will hold an extraordinary session on January 23 and January 24 to discuss the social and political situation.
